CAVC Service

Care and support for individuals needing invasive mechanical ventilation

Description:

Because of illness or injury, some individuals are unable to breathe on their own. West Park Healthcare Centre's Chronic Assisted Ventilatory Care (CAVC) Service is an in-patient unit that provides care to people who need ongoing mechanical assistance to help them breathe for all or part of the day.

We provide 24-hour residential care for these individuals, with a focus on improving their health, well-being and independence. In addition to meeting their physical needs, West Park staff members help residents develop the skills to plan and direct their own care and, in some cases, to explore independent living. The 22-bed CAVC Service offers long-term residential care as well as slow stream rehabilitation (twelve weeks to two years) for patients able to reintegrate into the community.
